ARTICLE - LAMOTHE - U.S. STATE DEP'T. MEETING

WORKING MEETING BETWEEN LAURENT LAMOTHE AND THE U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT

The Foreign Affairs Minister Laurent Lamothe, also the Prime Minister-designate, met last week with an important delegation of the State Department led by Cheryl Mills, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, accompanied by the Ambassador American Kenneth Merten, Thomas C. Adams, Special Coordinator of the Department of State of Haiti and the new Ambassador of Haiti accredited to Washington, Paul Altidor.

"It was a working visit to do among others, a follow-up of the construction project of the industrial park in the North, in Caracol," indicated Laurent Lamothe, who took the opportunity to announce the opening next month of the first buildings of the industrial park. It was also a question of a port project in Fort Liberté. "Cheryl Mills and I have also discussed the construction of a port in Fort-Liberté, to create opportunities for park activities in the sea."

The discussions also focused on various issues related to the political situation in Haiti, as well as outstanding commitments already taken by the Government of the United States vis-à-vis Haiti.

Ms. Cheryl Mills reiterated the U.S. commitment to continue to support Haiti as an ally and partner, and wished to see Haiti with a legitimate government, to continue to discuss Haiti's development and investment.
