(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE - A policeman of the traffic service named Calixte Walky was shot Tuesday by unidentified gunmen. This assassination provoked the wrath of his colleagues who threaten to go on strike.

The policeman was killed Tuesday night in the neighborhood of Martissant after he was on the same day threatened by an MP, reported press agency Haiti Press Network.

The same source has confirmed that the murder had caused outrage among police officers who threatened to strike.

"We're managing the situation to avoid a strike," assured a police commissioner.

Walky Calixte was an officer of the 18th National Police Promotion. The victim was also a graduating student in Psychology at the Faculty of Humanities at the State University of Haiti.

Moreover, heavy gunfire was heard Wednesday in the vicinity of Radio Caraibes, in Port-au-Prince. According to this radio station, policemen outraged by Walky’s death were behind the shooting, because the Deputy member they accused in their colleague’s murder was at radio Caraibes to explain the facts.
