ARTICLE - WEEK OF THE DIASPORA

WEEK OF THE DIASPORA - PROGRAM FROM MONDAY TO WEDNESDAY
(Haiti Libre) -

The Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), officially launched Monday, April 16, 2012, the week of activities surrounding the National Day of the Diaspora.

In his welcoming remarks, Minister Daniel Supplice, gave a brief history of migration in Haiti, a country of immigrants over time. Unfortunately, today it is a country of emigration. However, reassures the sociologist, "there are ways to reverse this trend. That's why we have launched this week of activities dedicated to the compatriots who live abroad."

Mr Supplice also stressed that we have a diaspora that is scattered, diverse, plural and multiple: migrant workers, university professors, professional artists and culture... our approach is to listen to them.

The Minister of Tourism, Stephanie B. Villedouin who attended the launching ceremony, advocates for the promotion of a better image of Haiti abroad. So she invites members of the diaspora to be an example by choosing this country as their main tourist destination. "We must convince our compatriots abroad, to stimulate them, to change the image of Haiti in their country of residence," she insists.

"When they present a good image of Haiti and speak well of Haiti, their colleagues and working friends will think of visiting the country," the minister hopes.
