MUNICIPAL OFFICIALS ARRESTED FOR HITTING WOMAN
(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE - Petionville municipal officials were arrested on Thursday for hitting a woman severely while trying to maintain order in one of the markets.

The woman was hospitalized, and on a video recorded by the Haiti Press Network, blood can be seen on a truck bed that carried the elderly woman to the hospital.

Several municipal officials were arrested, but finding the one who hurt the woman was not clear from the record of the HPN. A police inspector told the Petionville officials that they would be held until he finds which one of them hit the woman.

"Some employees from the city hall, they were maintaining order in the market; but they don't have the right to hit people."

"I can't find which one of them hit the woman; but I will lock them up and question them until I find out who did the hitting..."

Another officer said:

"An agent of the mayor hit a woman, he hit her really badly, in a bad position."

"When I arrived on the scene to assess the situation, there was a police backup that already left with the woman..."

The camera shows a truck bed covered in blood and blood on the ground.
