ARTICLE - MEXICAN PRESIDENT VISITS HAITI

MORE DETAILS ON THE VISIT OF MEXICAN PRESIDENT FELIPE CALDERON

Tomorrow Thursday, April 12, the Mexican President Felipe Calderón ,at the head of a important political delegation and of businessmen, will be on an official visit to Haiti, as part of the development, cooperation and the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries. This is the first time that a President of Mexico in office visits Haiti.

Tuesday, Laurent Lamothe, the Foreign Minister and the Prime Minister-designate, who has just passed yesterday with success the first stage of his ratification in the Senate, held a press briefing to explain what Haiti can expect from this visit.

"...On the side of the Government of Haiti, we are preparing a beautiful meeting for them, and as part of this visit, I must tell you that Mexico is preparing several programs with Haiti. Within the framework of these partnerships, they will go to Gonaïves, where President Felipe Calderon has committed to renovate the hospital 'la Providence' at a cost of $8 million. Then they will provide 300 scholarships; a vocational school in Aquin will be established with management for two years; they will donate 15 vehicles; they will build 12 clinics, including 7 high-level clinics [...]

They will have several meetings. They will meet with President Michel Martelly, who will return home early Thursday morning [...] to meet with President Felipe Calderón. This will be a one-day visit. The Mexican President will leave in the evening for the Summit of the Americas. President Martelly will also travel to the summit on Friday. We know that this is one of the biggest events of the Americas. All the Presidents of the regions participate, including U.S. President Barack Obama. This will be an opportunity again for Haiti, to work with partners to continue to promote the country on behalf of the people, and to explain to our international partners what are the priorities of the day [... ]

This is a historic visit. Haiti can benefit a lot from it [...] we can learn much from Mexico. We remain very confident. We have a delegation of Mexican businessmen that will be here as part of Business diplomacy and development. We are seeing that our efforts are bearing fruit [...] We rely on the cooperation of all for the visit of President Felipe Calderón to be a total success [...] Concrete economic benefits of this visit represents at least $20 million for the country.

[...] The battle we are fighting, is not a battle that the Executive leads for its own account. This is a battle that all the powers and the State lead together to make progress in the country [...] Not only do we make them aware, but they also participate as well; thus, at the Summit of the Americas there will be parliamentarians who will go there, who will participate; [...] because it is important that it is a participatory process, of inclusion. When everyone is aware, at first glance, the whole process that must be followed is much easier [...] It is essential that we work together for what we are doing for the people. We do it very quickly and efficiently. There is no room for too many words. The landing must be made ​​as soon as possible, because there is not much time. It is a term of 5 years. Each day that passes is one day less where we can provide solutions and relief to the people [...]"
