THE PROGRAM "ABA GRANGOU" IS BEING ESTABLISHED

Friday, March 23, the Office of the First Lady held in Port-au-Prince a workshop with key partners of program "Aba grangou", focused on the establishment of a versatile national network of development agents. This workshop was an opportunity to introduce the accompanying program, "Kore Fanmi", and communicate the results of a survey on versatile community agents.

Kore Fanmi will manage data collected from families, by the community agents in order to meet the needs of families. According to Ms. Germanite Phanord, Representative of the Fund of Economic and Social Assistance, "this information will allow to rank the vulnerability of families in order that interventions are proportionate to the needs." 10,000 agents are mobilized for this purpose, at the rate of one agent per 100 families.

Duckenson Thomas, Representative of the World Bank has indicated that 8,500 community agents will be paid, supported by 30,000 volunteers. The World Bank will contribute to the tune of $3 million and UN agencies $1 million for the first phase of "Kore Fanmi".

Pierre Richard Desmornes, has indicated during this workshop, that his ministry will serve as a bridge between central and local authorities under the program "Aba Grangou", and will also finance the establishment of administrative structures for the proper functioning of the program.
