QUEEN SOFIA WILL INAUGURATE THE SALESIAN COLLEGE IN GRESSIER
The Queen Doña Sofía of Spain arrived in Haiti yesterday afternoon. Upon her arrival at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport, she was greeted by the President of Haiti, Michel Martelly, the First Lady, Sophia Martelly, and dozens of young schoolgirls.
"Haiti is a special country for me". "Haitians come from the heart". "Now, and for all time, Mr. President, Haiti can count on Spain and all Spaniards" declared Queen Sofía of Spain, at a dinner hosted by the President of Haiti.
The Queen will travel today to Léogâne to inquire about the progress of a project of 1,500 homes that are being built by the Haitian Red Cross, in collaboration with the Spanish Red Cross and the AECI.
We just learned that the Queen will also visit Gressier, about 15km from Leogane, to inaugurate the Salesian College built with funds from the Salesian Mission and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECI).
This educational center will be attended by children and youth of the rural population living nearby. Queen Sofía will inaugurate on this visit the elementary school, high school and two boarding schools for children abandoned or orphaned. A total of 7000 m2 whose primary purpose is education, as says so well Olga Regueira, a volunteer in Haiti working with the Salesians'." We want them to learn while playing."
In Gressier, the work of the Salesians is not yet complete. Currently they are building a multidisciplinary building and an agricultural school with four boarding schools for young people who decide to opt for technical training.
