SENATOR JEANTY INVITES MARTELLY TO CLARIFY ON PARLIAMENTARIANS EVADING JUSTICE
(Defend Haiti) -
PORT-AU-PRINCE - Senator Jean Wiliam Jeanty (Nippes/KONBA) invited President Michel Martelly to clarify and specify allegations in which the Head of State said that the Haitian Parliament was serving as a refuge for escaped convicts and persons evading justice.
Senator Jeanty said furthermore, that if the president does not specify who the members of parliament are and the charges that they are facing, then the Presidents of the Senate and House of Deputies would write a letter to the Head of State requiring clarification on any such dossiers.
"After the Constitution, the president is responsible for the proper maintenance and function of the institutions. If he has information... well, I assume since he spoke he has credible information... if he has information that there are people like this in the parliament, .... then his responsibility is to act."
"Even if he doesn't want to act, he should invite the presidents, the presidents of both houses, so that he can put the cases in front of them and for them, they could do what they have to do."
"If he doesn't do this... than the presidents in parliament should come together and write to the president and ask him to present these allegations publicly to the parliamentarians."
