HAITI QUAKE PANEL'S MANDATE ENDS

PORT-AU-PRINCE — The mandate is ending for a Haiti reconstruction panel that was set up to coordinate donor aid after last year's earthquake.
The Interim Haiti Recovery Commission's 18-month mandate ends Friday. Pierre Manigat Junior of the commission says it didn't receive a request from President Michel Martelly for an extension.
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive served as co-chairmen. The panel was in charge of coordinating billions of dollars pledged for reconstruction.
Martelly said in July he wanted to renew the panel's mandate but he never submitted a formal request to parliament.
Critics accused the panel of not doing enough to rebuild Haiti after the January 2010 earthquake.
