Commissioner Will Dimanche, Director of Traffic and the Traffic Police announced yesterday Wednesday at a press conference that from December 1, several measures are in place. Thus, the motorcycle taxis in Petion-ville, must park at the roundabout at the market and they are forbidden to park in front of banks, shops, churches or any other busy places. He also informed the bus company Sin to pick up passengers only at regular stops and not to change routes. For his part, Gary Desrosiers, the spokesman of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) announced that exceptional security measures will be taken as part of Operation "Christmas 2011" (Noël 2011) "...we know that the holidays are fast approaching. For December 24 and 31, there is a series of additional measures that the police will take to allow people to go about their business and also take pleasure. This is a period that gathers many people and where the diaspora is also present [...]

With the approach of the holiday season, individuals take the opportunity to extort money from the public, make kidnappings and we record unfortunately, cases of people shot. As part of strengthening the security, we will make a big mobilization at the level of the PNH with the support of Minustah to address these situations. This operation is called 'Christmas 2011'. Initiated since November 25 it will end on January 7, 2012. The mission of the PNH is to prevent and punish individuals who intend to prevent people from going about their business quietly.

There will be joint patrols PNH-MINUSTAH throughout the country. There are measures that are taken in all departments... Areas that the police are specifically targeting are : Bel Aire, Cité Soleil, Vivi Michel, Thomassin, Solino etc... but also shopping centers, the downtown, Grand Rue, Marché Saint Joseph [...]

There will be fixed checkpoints, for example at the Gonaïves station, poste Marchand, Nazon/Christ Roi, former Teleco Sans Fil, etc... In Carrefour, all roads will have patrols and fixed points at the level of RN2, to Fontamara 43, which usually gives problems, and Route Rail. For Delmas, the crossroads at the airport, Gerald Bataille, crossroad at Delmas 2 and piste aviation, Delmas 32, 40b, 48... In Croix des Bouquet, crossroads Beudet, crossroads Fleuriot, Lilavois 48, Route 9 and Croix des Missions.

For Pétionville, where there is really an extraordinary level of activity in this period, because virtually all areas of the downtown had problems after January 12, (with the result that people go to Pétion ville) and that is where there are clubs, there will be a really large presence of the PNH ; at the market of Pétionville, next to the church of Saint-Jean-Bosco, Rue Pan American, Jacquet toto, entrance at Tabarre 62, Montagne Noire and the Delmas 105 area cemetery.

For Cite Soleil the officials of this area took additional measures to enable people living in that area to go about their business during Christmas..."
