THIERRY MAYARD-PAUL - LISTENING TO CITE SOLEIL
(Haiti Libre) -

Mr. Thierry Mayard-Paul, the Minister of Interior, of Territorial Collectivities and National Defense, accompanied by the Secretary of State for Home Affairs, Mr. Georges Racine, and the Secretary of State of Territorial Collectivities, Mr. Jean Fritz Jean Louis have met, yesterday Tuesday, representatives from 34 neighborhoods of Cité Soleil as part of the listening campaign and of proximity to the Ministry.

During this meeting, representatives of these neighborhoods had the opportunity to submit to the Minister Mayard Paul, the different requests of the community. They have, among others, raised the issue of illegal possession of weapons among the population, and desired the establishment of a popular feeding program, the creation of an auditorium, a recreation center and playgrounds, rehabilitation of the port of Cité Soleil and the demarcation of the district. Furthermore, they suggested that the taxes levied on businesses based in Cite Soleil are invested in the town in order to promote economic and social development.

One of the major applications was the increase in the number of police officers assigned to this district, whose population is estimated at about 300 to 450,000 inhabitants, and which, however, has only 106 police officers.

Mr. Mayard Paul collected the grievances of these representatives and renewed to them the commitment of his team to work to provide quick and effective solutions to the problems raised.

The Ministry of the Interior is working to materialize the vision of the President of the Republic in creating sustainable development through local initiatives and decentralized cooperation.
