ONLY 3 PERSONS NATURALIZED IN HAITI IN 208 YEARS, SAYS MINISTER
(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE - The Minister to the President of Haitians Living Abroad, Daniel Supplice, revealed that in Haiti's 208 years of independence, the country has granted the application for naturalization to only three people, lamenting that a large Syrian population has lived in Haiti since 1930.

"This is something that seems scary. We have 208 years of Independence and we could not even get to four applications for naturalization. I consulted all the issues of the official journal, Le Moniteur on this subject. I found only three names that have benefited from the law on this issue."

"Paradoxically, it must be said that Haiti is one of the most difficult countries in the field relating to naturalization."

"This is unacceptable! We have a big problem as a society. Is it possible to consider people like Sassine who has live in the country since 1930 as foreigners or the Syrians?"

Minister Supplice made the revelation at an event marking the International Day of Migrants and Refugees on Sunday.

It has long been a complaint by Haitian citizens that the large amount of foreigners in the country benefit as citizens but do not contribute to the country's cultural and economic growth.
