ARTICLE - SECURITY - POLICE FIGURES

THE POLICE GIVE FIGURES

On December 7th, at a press conference, Gary Desrosiers, the spokesman for the National Police of Haiti (PNH) took stock of the activities of the PNH for the period from November 16 to 30 as part of among others the operation Christmas 2011.

For this period the police arrested 65 people for criminal acts, and there were 105 people who have been victims. Regarding the security plan that the police established so that the population can go about its business during the holiday season, we can say that for now it goes well at the level of Department of the West where there are several police officers involved in this operation [Operation Christmas 2011" (Noël 2011).... about 1,000 police officers. We declare that this has brought results, because there were areas where there was no police presence, and now the police is present.

On November 28 the police set up checkpoints. There were 894 cars, 394 trucks, 521 public transport vehicles, and 870 motorcycles that have been searched. 855 pedestrians were searched. For November 29 there were 1,350 cars, 543 trucks, 654 public transport vehicles and 1,270 motorcycles that had been searched, and for the pedestrians there were 777 searched. On November 30, .... 1,213 cars, 855 trucks, 815 public transport vehicles, and 1,160 motorcycles have been searched at checkpoints and 1,300 pedestrians were searched.

As part of the official launch of the road safety campaign, which began Friday, October 28th at the Police Academy, ... Minustah along with the Police began raising awareness at schools. Last weekend we started with the institution Saint-Louis de Gonzague at the primary level; mainly because we realized that awareness must be made first at the primary level, and then to the secondary level, and university levels. Over the coming weekends we will do this program in other schools.

For work performed by the Office of Economic and Financial Affairs (BAFE), the Central Directorate of Judicial Police (DCPJ) has treated 14 cases. 107 cases are currently being processed [...] 9 people have been arrested and referred to the judicial authorities. 195 people are wanted by the DCPJ. 10 houses, 6 plots, one vehicle, and eight mobile phones were seized, and concerning the embezzled of funds it was 2,966,318 gourds.

For the assessment of the cell against kidnapping for November 7, it is always a partial assessment. From June until today's date there have been 45 cases of kidnapping, 5 murders and 3 missing persons.
