THE NUMBER 177 TO COLLABORATE WITH THE POLICE
(Haiti Libre) -

Réginald Delva, the Secretary of State for Public Security, announced measures against the resurgence of insecurity in recent weeks. "Public safety is not just a matter for the police. It is much broader than that, taking into account the new threats faced by the country." Wanting to be reassuring, the Secretary clarified that "we are in the holiday season,... this is not the first time that at the end of the year we see an increase in the cases of banditry [...] several meetings between the high command of the police and Minustah have been made to consider a new deployment of troops on the ground, especially in the capital.

For cases of kidnappings there are answers that will be given [...] very soon we will start the 177 number, a number where we have more operators to answer calls, a number where people can call if they see something wrong and provide information to the police [...] in 3 or 4 days we will make the number available [...] There are cases that seem more spectacular than others, and what we want say to the families, is that whatever the name of the person or his political color, all cases have the same importance. [...] We guarantee to the public that the police will do its best and there will be quick results [...]"
