ARTICLE - 700 POLICE RETRAINED

700 POLICE OFFICERS, RETRAINED, REINFORCED AND TRAINED
(Haiti Libre) -

700 Haitian police officers from the West department have over the last 2 months been able to be retrained, strengthened their capacity and acquired new knowledge in first aid, technical rescue at sea and swimming; in particular for the Coast Guard, the BLTS or the administrative police. The training took place at the Directorate of Schools and of Continuing Education (DEFP), by instructors from the United Nations Police (UNPOL).

These promotions were problematic in their behavior, as was the non-compliance with basic principles in handling their service weapons...

During these refresher courses, the young officers were able to consolidate their knowledge in areas such as report writing, regulations, ethics and deontology,...

At the level of the current first aid courses, currently 1,700 rescuers, 40 instructors and five 5 master instructors in first aid of the PNH will be trained by April 2013. The PNH should be autonomous because it will have 50 master trainers, 450 trainers and 7,000 officers trained in first aid by St John Ambulance as part of a Memorandum of Understanding between the PNH, MINUSTAH and the Canadian NGO St. John Ambulance.

One hundred agents who will integrate into the Office for the Fight against drug trafficking (BLTS) have received specialized training, subdivided into four parts, namely Basic Criminal Investigation accompanied by notions of criminal proceedings, the identification of drugs with the study of the appearance of drugs, tactics and strategies on the ground, including how to question a suspect, and weapons and shooting with guns of various calibers in different circumstances.

From October 10 to 14, 2011, 59 men and 6 women coastguard officers have received training in technical rescue at sea at the Admiral Killick naval base, their HQ located in Carrefour. Under the supervision of 8 instructors from Minustah they have learned survival skills such as fetal position, or the cluster, and the dangers related to the sea. They were also familiarized with the use and the utility of lifejackets, hypothermia and first aid measures...
