UN PEACEKEEPERS ACCUSED OF BEATING THREE YOUNG HAITIANS
(Defend Haiti) -
PORT-AU-PRINCE - On Wednesday the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) denounced United Nations peacekeepers for abusing three young Haitians in the neighborhood of Fort Dimanche in the center of the capital.
The photos of these young people showing signs of beatings on the body traveled over the Internet and were sent to Haiti Press Network .
"RNDDH who collected the three young people condemned these acts of aggression perpetrated by soldiers of MINUSTAH, some of which have already been accused of violating the rights of Haitians in cities across the country," said Marie Yolaine Gilles, spokeswoman for the organization.
According to the testimony of victims, they were beaten by nearly eight soldiers with whom they had an altercation.
"They beat us and and then left us next to a landfill," said one youth.
Haiti Press Network tried unsuccessfully to contact the public relations department of the Brazilian contingent of soldiers for their version of events.
