ARTICLE - LISTENING TO THE POPULATION

MAYARD-PAUL TO THE LISTENING OF THE REAL NEEDS OF THE POPULATION
(Haiti Libre) -

As part of the new campaign of proximity desired by the President of the Republic, aimed at closer governmental actions, to the needs of the population, the Minister of Interior and Territorial Collectivities, Mr. Thierry Mayard-Paul visited the South of the country. Several departments, including the Grande Anse, South and South-East were visited.

The listening campaign is part of the ministerial strategy whose mission is the implementation of the decentralization policy ardently desired by the Head of State, in his quest for sustainable development for the Haitian people. This is also via the identification of leaders who are capable and responsible in their communities that this goal will be achieved.

In this context of listening and of information sharing, several communities, particularly those of Anse d'Hainault, Port Salut, Les Cayes and Jeremie have met the Minister and his team. Their hopes regarding the needs for the improvement of their lives have been expressed. Several themes were identified, including: the lines of communication between some rural sections, the need for new health centers of proximity, the redevelopment of the area, the difficulties inherent to their working tools and other means of subsistence. Many points were carefully considered in order to align the ministerial strategy of decentralization with the real needs of the population.

On Saturday (Nov. 19th), Thierry Mayard Paul also met with municipal officials, including members of the Boards of Directors of communal sections (Conseils d’Administration des Sections Communales CASEC) of Port Salut, in a constructive dialogue to identify the poles of development desired locally. That same day, the government team also met with fishermen in the southern suburbs of Anse d'Hainault and engaged in dialogue around the vital issues of this community.
