STRONG SKEPTICISM ABOUT THE "CONSPIRACY" AGAINST MARTELLY
(Defend Haiti) -

Port-au-Prince - The conspiracy case against Martelly allegedly involving a former high-ranking army officer of the Dominican Republic and a Haitian citizen continues to draw reactions in various media in Haiti; the majority of them expressing skepticism and concern relating to possible consequences of such a “plot”.

The Executive Director of the National Network of Human rights (RNDDH), Pierre Esperance, on Saturday expressed his concern at the revelations made last week by government officials of the two republics sharing the island. He wants clarifications to be made quickly on the case so that it may not be used, as before, as a pretext for persecution against any opponents.

The human rights activist does not rule, therefore, the possibility that the case is nothing but a manipulation intended to facilitate attacks against people because of their opinions.

Mr. Esperance noted how surprising was the speed with which the Government Commissioner Jean Renel Senatus claims to have public proceedings against alleged plotters, while the evidence of any flagrant act has not yet been established.

The Executive Director of the Civil Society Initiative (ISC), Rosny Desroches, said that he too, is in total confusion over this conspiracy story. He hoped the two governments will provide further explanation on the issue.

Desroches also questioned the possibility of a Dominican candidate for president, Hipolito Mejia (PRD), destabilizing the Martelly government with the presence of thousands of UN peacekeepers in Haiti.

The head of the National Party, Democratic and Progressive Haitian (PNDPH) and board member of the Political Platform "Rasanble," Dr. Turneb DelpĂ©, also doubts the accuracy of the information reported about the "conspiracy", by the Haitian Minister of Justice and Public Safety, Michel Brunache. He also expressed apprehension over the possibility that the “plot” does not serve the outbreak of political persecution.

Also expressing skepticism over the record, and wishing that evidence be shown, the MP for Mole Saint Nicolas (Northwestern), Eloune Doreus (OPL), proposed that the Government "invent" a conspiracy against poverty and hunger that plague the country.

Former Senator and member of the Center of the General Secretariat of the Fusion of Haitian Social Democrats, Serge Gilles, believes that the alleged "conspiracy", is a response of the government to the corruption case revealed by the Dominican journalist Nuria Piera.
