REFLECTIONS OF THE OPL ON THE NEW GOVERNMENT
(Haiti Libre) -

After the ratification of the Prime Minister, Dr. Garry Conille, Saturday in the lower house, Edgar Leblanc, Coordinator of the Organization of People in Struggle (OPL) hopes that this strong support in the Chamber of Deputies, but rather limited support in the Senate allows the government to have stability, gain confidence and to initiate the first actions of this government.

"I believe that this government is the result of an alliance, the alliance of the Martelly team and the INITE platform particularly. Of course there are the political parties AAA, PONT and PAIN [Agricultural Industrial National Party], which occupies the position of Minister of Agriculture. The President of PAIN is the Minister of Agriculture, the only party leader in the government. It is this alliance that gave a majority in both houses and now resultst in having a government. I hope that this support, strong enough in the House of Deputies, but rather limited in the Senate allows the government to have stability, gain confidence and to initiate the first actions of this government, which will most likely be the development and the presentation of the 2011-2012 budget. This is the budget that will really show what are the broad guidelines and and the axes of the government's policy, and its priorities. For the ALTERNATIVE and the OPL we will see...

It is necessary to understand that we have not yet a team [ministerial cabinet]. There are people who have been selected, some by the President of the Republic, perhaps others, by the Prime Minister I do not know [...] There is, a disparate group of people who are called to lead the country at the Executive level. Will the Prime Minister show all his power in bringing cohesion among these individuals in order to make a team of them? Because it is necessary that there is a team that believes in the work to be done, ready to make sacrifices and working to produce results; otherwise we can not predict good days for the government.

However, I think that the situation is such, that very probably, these people will get to work and especially have a minimum of consensus to work together."
