"OPERATION DRAGON" OF NATIONAL POLICE IN EFFECT
(Defend Haiti) -
PORT-AU-PRINCE - "Operation Dragon" aims to track down bandits wherever they are and dismantle the gangs involved in all kinds of criminal activities including kidnappings, said Haitian security officials on Thursday.
A practice run was held Thursday afternoon in downtown Port-au-Prince and Petion-Ville (east) where neighborhoods were closed. During this operation, an officer of the DCPJ, whose identity was kept secret, was slightly injured in clashes with armed gangs. He was taken to the hospital for appropriate care, reports Radio Kiskeya.
For his part, the bandit, seriously injured, was transported to the hospital at the State University of Haiti, where he had emergency surgery.
The Secretary of State for Public Security, Reginald Delva, and the head of the judicial police, the Divisional Commissioner Godson Orélus, went on site to ensure that the life of the injured could be saved. The authorities hoped, in fact, to get important information from him.
The President of the Justice and Security Committee of the Senate, Youri Latortue, submitted a seven-point plan to curb rampant insecurity.
As we approach the holiday season, heinous killings and kidnappings have increased; particularly heinous in major population centers of the capital and its environs.
