PORT-AU-PRINCE - Lagrandeur Briel, a member of the private cabinet of the President of the Republic, was shot dead on Friday night (Nov. 11) at Gerald Bataille, near the International Airport in Port-au-Prince. He was returning from Guadeloupe.

Two other lawyers, including Samuel Madistin, were inside the vehicle that was encircled by gunmen who then opened fire and shot Mr. Lagrandeur, reports AHP.

Mr. Madistin, who was unharmed in the attack, questioned the motives of this new crime...

Lawyer Camille Leblanc who worked in the same firm as Mr. Lagrandeur is concerned that bandits can peacefully continue to plunge into mourning families.

The former Minister of Justice has praised the victim, a native of the island of La Gonave, "a man determined, disciplined, and with a sense of responsibility," he said.

Two other people were also shot dead Friday night (Nov. 11) in Port au Prince; one at the entrance to Cite Soleil, while the other died near the Toussaint Louverture airport (north).

These killings are extending a long list of victims of insecurity in the metropolitan area of Port au Prince. Last Thursday (Nov. 10), gunmen killed at his home, police inspector Coffy Joel.
