THREE MUNICIPALITIES OF QUEBEC SHARE THEIR EXPERTISE WITH HAITI
(Haiti Libre) -

The municipalities of Sherbrooke, Montmagny and of Richmond (Quebec) welcomed a Haitian delegation for a training visit, as part of the Haiti-Canada Municipal Cooperation Project (MCP) of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), in order to share their expertise and help the communities hard hit by the earthquake of 2010 to provide essential services to their people.

"We are proud to support Canada's efforts in Haiti and help communities hard hit by the earthquake to rebuild" declared Berry Vrbanovic, president of the FCM.

The delegation, composed of six employees of the Agency Technical Intercommunal des Palmes (ATIP), was established in order to strengthen the capacity of communities in urban and regional planning, and the training will be from this week until October 24. The group will be split into two teams of three or four participants. The first team, which will include .... land management; a management specialist and a mapping technician, will be received by the city of Sherbrooke in order to receive a solid education on Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The second team will be received by the City of Montmagny to follow a training program on the process of decision making and information management in the municipal world. The two teams will then be joined for a day of training on the application of new knowledge as part of the planning and management of the territory in the municipality of Richmond.

"By sharing their expertise, municipalities will help their Haitian counterparts to better meet the basic needs of their population," added Vrbanovic.
