UNITED NATIONS PEACEKEEPERS FOUND TO HAVE IMPREGNATED SEVERAL MINORS

PORT-SALUT - A minor, Rosemina Joseph age 17, had her case heard by a judge on Wednesday that she was made ​​pregnant by a soldier of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). She joins a group of several other minors in the same circumstance.

The Agence Haitienne de Presse (AHP) has learned that the girl lives with her mother and will soon give birth to a child whose father is allegedly Julio Cesar Posse Junca of a MINUSTAH contingent in Port-Salut.

The mother of Rosemina was heard on Wednesday by the national human rights organization and the Justice of the Peace, Paul Tarte who is also hearing the case of the rape by soldiers of an 18 year old man.

According to the head of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH), Ernso Valentin, the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) is aware of the facts and the soldier was repatriated to his home country of Uruguay.

The girl gave evidence of her relations with the peacekeeper, that has not yet been made public, and in addition, several other underage girls in the region are in the same situation as Rosemina.

This new scandal has occurred, while Haitians are still reeling from the rape victim which was a boy of 18 by three United Nations soldiers based in Port-Salut.

Haitians have long said that the peacekeepers have taken advantage of citizens in unfortunate circumstances and have participated in drug operations and prostitution among other crimes against the state.
