INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE MIDWIFE

In Haiti, a lot of pastors have jobs that they do during the week. One of the tasks that Pastor Pierre sometimes undertakes is "mid-wifery"! Yes he is a "laborer of Christ! Before helping a woman with her delivery he always prays before and according to him he has never lost a woman during delivery. He is also skilled to recognize problems and doesn't hesitate to advise the family to go to a hospital when needed. Pastor Pierre helped his wife with all 7 of her deliveries. A good helping husband! Not only women can be mid-wifes, but pastors too!

May 5th is International Day of the Midwife. In Haiti, some missions help providing midwife services and because of this these missions are reducing maternal death rates amongst the people they serve. The typical Haitian mid-wife has "hand-me-down" training taught by other mid-wives before them. In rural areas the task of a mid-wife is difficult. A woman sometimes needs a c-section and this is not usually possible for women who have to travel distances to hospitals. As a result Haiti has a high maternal death rate. Pray for all those laboring to help women have successful deliveries.
