STRENGTHENING OF THE COOPERATION WITH CUBA, THE DETAILS

Michel Martelly, the President of the Republic, met on Wednesday November 16 the Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidèle Castro. For about three hours, President Martelly and Mr. Castro had a very successful interview on various topics of general interest.
Soon after, the Head of State was received by his Cuban counterpart, Raul Castro. The two Presidents discussed cooperation between Cuba and Haiti and the means of strengthening ties between the two countries.
In the middle of the day, the Vice Minister of the State Council of Cuba, during a working session with the Haitian delegation, reiterated Cuba's commitment to Haiti. Mr. Esteban Lazo indicated that his country is prepared to assist Haiti in the areas of cooperation identified by the authorities of Port-au-Prince. "We do not claim to control you, but help you. We do not help you with what we have in surplus, but we share with you what we have," he declared.
The Haitian delegation, headed by Michel Martelly, on official visit to Cuba since Tuesday, has made further progress in cooperation between Haiti and Cuba.
Health
The authorities of both countries, following a working meeting on Wednesday, November 16, agreed on the construction of 7 community hospitals and 5 health centers.
Education
In the field of education, commitments were also made. In addition to Haitian students who will continue to study medicine in Cuba, the Cuban cooperants on site in Port-au-Prince, will continue with the program "Wi mwen Kapab", intended to alphabetize thousands of Haitians.
Sports
The tripartite cooperation "Haiti-Cuba-Venezuela" and "Haiti-Venezuela-Brazil" will facilitate the construction of sports centers in the country and the assistance of Cuban technicians to raise the level of certain sports such as volleyball, basketball and tennis.
Technical assistance
Havana will also provide to Port-au-Prince a technical assistance to better manage the fleet of heavy equipment of the CNE, of SMCRS and of the Company Dignité.
Agriculture and Fisheries
In the fields of agriculture and fisheries, Cubans are willing to support the Haitian people. Twenty Cuban veterinarians will soon land in Haiti to provide support to the sector.
Environment
The environment has also attracted the attention of Cubans who want to help Haiti in the fight against environmental degradation.
