photos - usns comfort - part 33

This is the friendly security guard who works at Terminal Varreux. He lives in Cite Soleil and has 4 children. 2 boys and 2 girls.
One of the Navy personnel checked people's names to the surgical list. Patients names who were on the list were allowed to advance to the launches that would carry them to the ship.
Aldai was scheduled to go to the ship for a hernia surgery. They couldn't find his name on the list and he wasn't allowed to board. There were a few others who were told to go to different hospitals in the area for consultations.
Jeff was a special case. A week before the arrival of the USNS Comfort he broke his leg where it connects with his ankle. He lives on the island of La Gonave. A missionary on the island brought him first to the Baptist Mission Hospital in Fermathe. The family would have had to buy the surgical plates and screws needed to hold his leg bone together but when we contacted the Comfort they agreed to do the surgery. We transferred him from the hospital and brought him to the pickup point for the ship.
After his surgery and being discharged from the ship he spent a couple days here keeping his leg elevated. Andy Troyer who is a missionary on La Gonave brought him back to La Gonave.
