ARTICLE - ARRESTS IN NOTARY GIORDANI CASE

FIRST ARRESTS IN THE CASE OF NOTARY GIORDANI
(Haiti Libre) -

Commissioner Frantz Lerebours, spokesman for the National Police of Haiti (PNH) announced yesterday, that several individuals were arrested in connection with the investigation of the kidnapping of Notary Giordani on August 26, whose lifeless body was found at Canapé-Vert the next day.

"...This is great news. Lazare Jean Sébastien, 22, who is one of the authors of the kidnapping of Mr. Giordani was arrested [near the notary's office]. At his hearing, we determined that he had enjoyed the complicity of the three security guards of the Notary [...]""

"...Jean Sébastien was under surveillance for 48 hours. There is a second bandit that we tried to intercept on Acacias street. He managed to escape after a shootout with the police [...] There is a gang of at least 5 people. There are three people that are on the run and we have another security guard to interpellate. In this gang, there is a certain Ti-Bouchon, who we had already arrested in the case of the engineer Padi and who was again arrested. He is currently in the penitentiary [...] We believe that we stopped a big fish and that will allow us to move forward with the investigation [...]

Lazare Jean Sébastien is currently at the police station of Port-au-Prince where he was interviewed. I do not know if additional hearings will be made. He could be taken to court on Monday. [...] There are other people involved in the case of Notary Giordani... Lazare Jean Sébastie is one of the authors who confirmed his participation without coercion in this act. There are still three people out..."

C. Phalange and Marcellus Marcelin, two guards are also in custody. According to revelations made by Jean Sébastien during his interrogation, the operation was sponsored by the guards, with a promise of USD$15,000...
