ARTICLE - SEC. STATE PUBLIC SAFETY PROMISE

NEW SECRETARY OF STATE FOR PUBLIC SAFETY PROMISES TO BRING "PEACE OF MIND"

Reginald Delva took office Monday as the new Secretary of State for public safety in Haiti. The former Army officer promised to bring "peace of mind and a serene atmosphere to work, a nightlife resumption, and a renewed confidence in public institutions."

At a ceremony attended by law enforcement authorities, as well as several major political figures, Reginald Delva said he intends to establish a secure climate, suitable for tourism in Haiti.

Replacing Aramic Louis in this position, the public safety expert announced putting a particular emphasis on standards and regulations in order to ensure a secure environment.

The Minister of Justice Josue Pierre-Louis, who attended the ceremony, hopes that Mr. Delva gets to work quickly, "to pacify the country, in collaboration with the head of the national police, to address issues like kidnapping, robbery and crime".

The country needs a lasting peace to achieve development ", he added.
