Emergency Run
We had an emergency run this afternoon to bring a lady who came to our gate in full labour. She was having contractions very close together. She waited until the last possible moment to seek help from us as she had no funds to go to the hospital or pay for hospital care. We brought her over to Medecins Sans Frontiieres Maternity Hospital on Delmas 33 and she is now in triage. I felt sorry for her. A child of 9 years old is the person who came with her to the house. It must have been scary for her. Haiti has a high mother mortality rate because the mothers have no funds to afford pre-natal or delivery care. Pray for this mother, that she will have a problem free delivery and that both mother and baby will be healthy. As we were driving down a short-cut bumpy road to get to the hospital faster the mother told me to stop because of a contraction pain. The bumping of the vehicle wasn't making things any easier for her :) I told her that I couldn't stop and not to push :) So glad a baby wasn't born in our vehicle. Rudy and Claudin went along to help me out. This will be good training for them in the future when they become husbands and fathers :) No time to take a photo of the mother either because we were in a hurry :)
