Dec. 12/14 - Texas Neurosurgery Team

We are having a busy few days helping hydrocephalus babies and their families :) A neurosurgery team from Texas arrived in Haiti on Wednesday afternoon. They selected 22 patients for hydrocephalus surgeries. We had 12 hydrocephalus mothers and their babies sleep here at Coram Deo Wednesday evening. It was a challenge finding a place for everyone to sleep :) The next day we brought food to the hospital in the morning and we needed to use both of our vehicles to transport all the mother, babies, and the food service team to the hospital. We sure were appreciating the luxury of having 2 vehicles :) Yesterday 8 surgeries were done. Due to limited space for the hydrocephalus babies at Bernard Mevs Hospital it means a quick discharge. Patients operated on yesterday and showing no signs of fever or vomiting were discharged this morning to make room for another 8 babies who will be operated on today. We brought Guilson Carilus and his mother home to refuge settlement out in Jerusalam. Guilson had a shunt installed and I was worried about possible infection in the days ahead. One advantage in being in Haiti is that you can easily buy medicine here. We gave the mother antibiotics and Tylenol to take home with her. Please pray for Guilson and the other babies who are being operated on over the 3 days. The neurosurgery team returns back to Texas on Sunday.
