GERMAN SAWMILLER DELIVERS 1,182 HOMES TO HAITI
(TTJ) -

German sawmiller Klenk Holz AG has supplied 1,182 timber houses to the Haiti earthquake rebuilding programme.

Klenk pre-fabricated the pine homes at its Brandenburg plant, using more than 2,000m³ of lumber and 1,000m³ of OSB. Corrugated iron sheets were used for the roof covering.

Some 600 single and 582 detached houses were loaded in 153 containers and shipped out to Haiti, before being trucked to mountain villages in the country.

Klenk project manager Otto Beer said he was “shocked” by the misery of Haitians in the earthquake-hit zone but also impressed by the friendliness and gratitude of the people the company helped.

Klenk is currently in discussions to deliver additional accommodation. Its client is the German Agency for Technical Co-operation.
