HUMAN RIGHTS GROUP CRITICAL OF MARTELLY CEP DISSOLUTION

PORT-AU-PRINCE – The National Network of Human Rights (RNDDH) criticizes the decision of the Executive to dissolve the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) chaired by Gaillot Dorsinvil, while light was not been shed yet about the serious charges against the Electoral Council.
Serious charges of corruption, bribery and electoral fraud are brought against members of the CEP, including its president, Gaillot Dorsinvil.
The spokesman RNDDH Yolène Marie Gilles, said that dissolving the CEP under these conditions is to accept that all counselors were involved in cases of electoral fraud and collecting bribes, and accept the fact that many of them don’t want to account for their actions before the courts.
For Marie Yolène Gilles, the Executive should have taken precautionary measures against offending counsel pending the outcome of the investigation conducted on this issue by a Senate committee.
She denounces the fact that despite all the denunciations, the state institution ULCC (Unit for Combating Corruption) that is supposed to investigate the economic and financial crimes shows a laxity which causes questions about their actual role.
RNDDH calls on the authorities to agree on how to proceed on a basis of current legislation, so that light may be shed on the accusations against former electoral advisers and calls for public action being put in motion against all those involved in the wrongdoing charged to the electoral council presided by Gaillot Dorsinvil.
For Marie Gilles Yolène, it would be a clear signal of their commitment to fight impunity in the country.
According to several credible personalities, the prosecution of the members of the disbanded Electoral Council could lead to serious realities that could embarrass not only the last election of candidates who have received favors, but also sectors of the international community that influenced or even dictated the results.
