JUDGE HAS DECIDED WHETHER DUVALIER WILL FACE PROSECUTION

PORT-AU-PRINCE - A decision on whether former President-for-life Jean-Claude Duvalier will face prosecution or not has already been made.
According to AlterPresse, the investigating judge, Carves Jean, had sent out the order on Friday, January 27, 2012 but due to a work stoppage by bailiffs and clerks of the court, which began on January 16, the order was forwarded to the Government Commissioner, who will receive it on Monday, January 30.
Judge Jean told AlterPresse that the decision would be made public.
President Michel Martelly is one who has been sympathetic to Duvalier, suggesting that he would order a presidential pardon.
But on Friday, while in Ireland, Martelly denied that he would pardon Duvalier saying that reconciliation was his hope. National Palace adviser Damian Merlo told reporters that a pardon is not in the president's agenda.
Human rights groups have persistently warned against any attempt to grant amnesty to Jean Claude Duvalier under the guise of "national reconciliation."
