photos - deadly accident - part 1

Roshkanna Aristide was one of the children who was part of this round of hydrocephalus surgeries. The family lives in Cap Haitian. They stayed here at Coram Deo a few weeks before the surgery date to participate in the hydrocephalus seminars at Healing Hands. The mother was hopeful for a successful outcome, but it was not to be. After surgery, she didn't respond like the other children did. The doctors did a cat scan and found that the brain tumor she had was too advanced. The mother wanted to take her home so that she could die and then be buried. Last night she spent the night here at Coram Deo and early this morning Amos brought her to the Cap Haitian bus station. Amos noticed that Roshkanna was dead but didn't say anything to the mother. I think the mother knew too. She held the baby as if she was still alive, so that the other passengers wouldn't see and entered the bus . There is always a risk with hydrocephalus surgeries. Even in the United States there are complications sometimes. Pray for this mother as she buries and mourns the loss of her daughter.
While we were in the Delmas 31/33 area this morning we were taking a side street to get to Delmas 33 when we noticed this pick-up truck that unfortunately had an electrical pole fall onto it while the vehicle was driving down the street. In Haiti you see more and more cement electric poles and they are heavy as you can tell by the damage to this pick-up truck.
One person was seriously injured and brought to hospital. The vehicle is a state vehicle and the electric pole is from the state too, so it looks like the government will be paying both ways.
There was another pole down as well. We had to back up and use an alternate side street.
Look at all the spaghetti wires on this standing pole :)
