STEPHANIE BALMIR VILLEDROUIN SIGNED IMPORTANT AGREEMENTS
(Haiti Libre) -
Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism who is currently in Spain to participate in the second largest international tourism fair "Feria Internacional de Turismo en España" (FITUR), held in Madrid from January 18 to 21, 2012, began her mission with the signing of important agreements.
In a first agreement, Taleb Rifai, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organisation (WTO) is committed to providing a high-level expertise to support the strategic management of tourism in Haiti, training of volunteers that will promote tourism, the organization of workshops to update tourist information on Haiti, etc...
Haiti, which is one of the founders of the WTO, is back on track with international tourism after 25 year absence. The Minister of Tourism also informed that investments are already beginning to arrive in the country; announcing that in 2014, the first recreation resort for Haiti, will open its doors to encourage the promotion of international tourism.
Another fundamental agreement, signed this time with the World Trade Organization (WTO) concerns the commitment of the WTO to support the creation of a training center in tourism, in which there will be a restaurant and a hotel, open to the public and managed by students to apply the lessons learned.
The support of the WTO, of which Haiti is an honorary member, to boost tourism in the country, has now been acquired. Soon, two major international events will ake place in Haiti. The country will also be represented at the meeting of the Regional Committee of the WTO (in March 2012), at the international meetings of the Organization of American States (OAS), and at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Ecuador (September 2012).
