NEW GOVERNMENT PROSECUTOR, JEAN RENEL SENATUS, APPOINTED
(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE – Jean Renel Senatus accepted an appointment to the office of the Government Commissioner on Tuesday as the new Chief Prosecutor of the Port-au-Prince Court. Senatus becomes the fifth head of prosecutions in as many months.

Senatus was the attorney for hip-hop star Wyclef Jean during the 2010 elections and replaces Mr. Constant Lionel Bourgoin, who resigned on December 31, less than a month after taking office.

Jean Renel Senatus, originally from Ganthier, is the fifth government prosecutor to hold this position in the space of five months.

Senatus's predecessor, either resigned or was revoked by the Minister of Justice for not wanting to be "the armed wing of any authoritarian power," he proclaimed in his resignation letter.

Bourgoin's predecessor, Félix Léger was dismissed after 2 months for arresting Deputy Arnel Bélizaire (Delmas & Tabarre/Veye-Yo).

Léger's predecessor Jean Sonel Francois was dismissed after 2 months for summoning the former Minister of the Interior, Paul Antoine Bien Aime.

Francois' predecessor Harrycidas Auguste had been dismissed for his involvement in the man slaughter of a suspect in the BNC Chairman, Guiteau Toussaint, murder case.
