SENATOR BENOIT GIVES MARTELLY UNTIL MONDAY TO KEEP HIS WORD
(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE – Senator Steven Benoit (Ouest/Inite) has given President Michel Martelly until Monday, to honor his promise to publish the correct version of the Constitution of Haiti, explain his decision not to, or be called on the floor of the senate for being one who engages in deception.

President Michel Martelly had made four promises that would have brought political stability to Haiti at a meeting which had convened the three branches of government, members of civil society and a delegation from the Club of Madrid. President Martelly has not honored his word.

Among the promises, were to publish the correct text of the Constitution of Haiti into the nation’s official journal Le Moniteur. Haiti is in its 214th day without its mother document in its official place. Martelly promised to publish it before the end of 2011 and has not done so and cannot explain why.

Benoit is giving the Head of State until Monday to keep his word or have the issue be brought to the floor of the senate. It will not be the first time a senator has called the President of the Republic a liar in the National Assembly.

On November 22nd, Senator Moïse Jean Charles (Nord/Inite) called the Head of State a liar for saying that he was not involved “closely or from afar” with the arrest of Deputy Arnel Belizaire (Delmas & Tabarre/Independent).

"...by Monday and if by Monday he (Martelly) doesn't address those issues, at least have the amendments published, I guarantee you, I will bring it up to the National Assembly."

Senator Benoit is the only senator and one of 5 (out of more than 200) members of the executive and legislative branch to have declared his assets to the Court of Auditors as required by Haitian law.
