ARTICLE - ILLEGAL MIGRANTS INTERCEPTED

4TH INTERCEPTION OF A TRANSPORT OF ILLEGALS IN 5 DAYS IN THE D.R.
(Haiti Libre) -

The members of the specialized body of border security (CESFRONT) stopped yesterday, Sunday, a minibus of public transport in the community of Carbonera, between Dajabón and Monte Cristi, reports the Dominican military authority. The driver and his assistant managed to flee.

The Toyota minibus, carried 40 undocumented illegal migrants, of Haitian origin [12 children, 16 women and 12 men]. Many of these migrants declared having paid 1,500 pesos to the driver in order to drive them to Santiago. This is the fourth transport of Haitian migrants, intercepted within the last 5 days.

One of the Haitians indicated that the Dominican authorities must prepare to receive a flood of Haitian immigrants, because, he said, more and more people are being evicted from tent camps by the authorities or owners, unemployment is rising and the new government shows no sign of a new direction for the country. "The only hope for us Haitians is to cross the border and to settle in the Dominican Republic, because everyone wants to leave my country and emigrate to Dominican territory..."

Without wishing to generalize this personal testimony, it reflects unfortunately the state of mind of more than one of our compatriots who have lost hope for their future and think that they will have a better life in the neighboring country...
