ARTICLE - MARTELLY MEETS WITH LAMBERT

PRESIDENT MARTELLY MET JOSEPH LAMBERT IN PRIVATE
(Haiti Libre) -

While the G16 complains about the lack of dialogue between the Head of State and the majority group, President Martelly met yesterday, in private, in his office at the National Palace, with Senator Joseph Lambert, coordinator of the platform INITE.

"...Yesterday, I had a meeting with President Martelly. The meeting lasted over four hours. The atmosphere was decent, cordial, and very friendly. Only the two of us were in his office. We mainly talked about the need to develop a functional and sustainable Government as soon as possible. We looked at the steps, and we saw the necessity of having a majority; that I might call a 'functional majority'; a sustainable majority to allow the establishment of a functional and durable government.

[...] President Martelly spoke frankly with me. He emphasized that it is us who are elected, and we must work together and agree as a bare minimum. It is us who must ensure that the country can benefit from the collective work [...] For important reasons; given that I have not yet finished communicating with all my fellow Senators, all the elements of the meeting with President Martelly; I have chosen for the moment not to disclose certain details.

One thing is certain; President Martelly believes that there are steps we must take/cross, which is primarily a functional majority. I also think the same thing. After that, we believe that we must sit down and we could call the Prime Minister. It's the President of the Republic who must designate the Prime Minister. This is an injunction of the Constitution that he has [...] In an effort to work together, given the two nominations that failed in Parliament, he asked that a meeting be made on the profile of the person and on the responsibilities that he will have compared to the expectations of the population; and that we have defined [...]

The equation is simple. The equation is so simple that it has no unknowns. The President was elected with a comfortable majority, but he does not have a parliamentary majority; therefore it is imperative that we open a dialogue between the Executive and the Legislature so that we install a Prime Minister and that we put in place a government supported by a functional majority, so that we can ensure us of the stability and effectiveness of government.

Voila, we discussed of all this, we have discussed and the President said that this is not a question of G-16 or of group of GPR in the Chamber of Deputies, is a question of G-30, because all the Senators have been elected, is a question of G-95 because all the Deputies ave been elected, so that himself, as elected, partnering with us, to make move forward the country and to ensure that the population does not have a bad perception and believes that we reject responsibility."
