SHIPWRECK OF BORGNE-ANSE, FINAL TOLL
The final toll of the sinking of a sailboat sailing between the towns of Borgne and Anse-à-Foleur is 12 dead, including the Justice of the Peace of Saint Suzanne; and 21people are missing.
According to the information obtained from survivors, the boat had on board about fifty passengers coming from Borgne; for the most part to attend the festivities of the patronal feast of Sainte Anne. The search/rescue operation by the Maritime Police and fire volunteers of Civil Protection recovered 19 survivors.
In a note, Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, the Minister of Interior and Territorial collectivities has expressed to all his sympathies. "In these painful circumstances, the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial collectivities presents its condolences to the relatives, allies and friends of the victims and assures them that the Government will take all measures to assist the affected families with organizing funeral of the deceased."
On June 28 another boat carrying 23 people, had wrecked between the island of La Gonâve and Arcahaie. The record was 5 dead, seven missing and 11 survivors.
