UNASUR DOES NOT FORGET THE CHOLERA EPIDEMIC IN HAITI
(Haiti Libre) -

The Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) will finance with $500,000 US$, two health campaigns in Haiti through Medecins du Monde (MdM), intended to combat the cholera epidemic raging in Haiti since October 2010.

The Argentinian Gonzalo Basile, President of MdM, declared that the agreements signed with the Technical Secretariat of UNASUR are intended for community health programs and primary care in the rural haitian communities of Mirebalais-Lascahobas and Léogâne, where fatality rates recorded are higher than the national average. "There is a possibility of signing a third party agreement, for a similar amount of $500,000 US$, to boost the health plans in Haiti," stressed the President of MdM.

"These agreements clearly reflect the cooperation of UNASUR with Haitians and are part of the desire expressed by the Presidents Nestor Kirchner of Argentina and Rafael Correa of Ecuador," declared the President of Médecins du Monde.
