PRESIDENT MARTELLY ANNOUNCES CARNIVAL IN PORT-AU-PRINCE, JULY
(Defend Haiti) -
PORT-AU-PRINCE - On Monday President Michel Martelly announced a carnival to be held in Port-au-Prince in the month of July.
The Head of State made the announcement during an interview with members of the press.
The Mayor of Port-au-Prince, Jean Yves Jason did not organize a carnival in his city for this year's carnival, because the city did not receive any funding for the event.
The presidency said it would have been offensive to host a carnival in Port-au-Prince within the main artery, Champ de Mars, which is inhabited by tens of thousands of victims from the January 12, 2010 earthquake.
During the annoucement, President Martelly expressed satisfaction with the organization of the national carnival, which was held in Les Cayes in 2012 rather than Port-au-Prince.
