$500,000 FOR A SPORTS COMPLEX IN ST-MARC
(Haiti Libre) -
George Horan, President of Dubai Duty Free [the single largest airport retailer in the world], announced at the Trinity Forum in Seoul, a donation by the Dubai Duty Free Foundation (FDDF) of US$500,000 to the NGO Hand in Hand for Haiti (HHH) to finance a new Sports Complex at the Lycee Jean Baptiste Pointe du Sable School in the town of Saint Marc.
This complex will offer pupils and the wider community in Saint Marc an outstanding sports and leisure facility. Facilities will include an international regulation soccer pitch, a 6-lane athletic track, a basketball court and a volleyball court.
"Through our Foundation and through staff initiatives, we responded quickly to the Hand in Hand for Haiti initiative as it struck a chord with us, especially as its aim was to better the lives of children through education, which is one of the objectives of our Foundation," said Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman, Dubai Duty Free.
In September, 2011, the first phase of its education project was launched with the opening of the Lycee school, which will eventually provide education to 720 children.
"We are delighted to announce that the Dubai Duty Free Foundation will help in building this fantastic new Sports Complex which will enhance the lives of the pupils as well as the wider community who can avail of its facilities. Hand in Hand for Haiti has done a tremendous job in driving forward the completion of the Lycee School in such a short space of time and I congratulate Olivier, Ed and Martin on their hard work. We are looking forward to seeing the development of the new Sports Complex and see it become a focal point for the community", commented Colm McLoughlin.
