LAURENT LAMOTHE BEFORE THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

Laurent Lamothe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated Friday, February 24, 2012 in a working session with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. He answered among questions about business diplomacy, signed agreements with friendly countries, the functioning of diplomatic missions abroad, and the adhesion of Haiti into the African Union.
Minister Lamothe presented to members of the Commission two documents, one on the Review of the first 4 months of management at the Chancellery, and the other on the implementation schedule of programs planned for the 12 months for the year 2012.
About the African Union, Laurent Lamothe pointed out that this adhesion of Haiti, would open new markets and new opportunities to the country, particularly through the African Development Bank, and the new Union allies, which are China, India or Australia.
Daniel Supplice, the Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) also was invited by the Commission, and focused on his side, on the need to establish ID cards and passports for Haitian immigrants living in foreign countries, who are in irregular situations.
Before leaving the Parliament, Minister Lamothe promised to meet once a month, with members of the Commission on all bilateral and multilateral issues that concern the development of Haiti; by conventional diplomacy, and business diplomacy related to investments.
