photos - cite soleil - part 1

As we were in the downtown are of Port-au-Prince we saw this garbage removal team picking up a big pile of garbage off the street. There are not enough garbage trucks to be able to remove all the trash of Port-au-Prince.

Digicel does good business in Haiti with their cell phones. There is a line-up around this road side kiosk for purchasing a cell phone.

The team came with a lot of donated sandals and soccer equipment. We went to Cite Soleil to give them to Willy and Joel of Action Chretienne Pour Le Developpement. Kimosabee is still kaput so we used a tap-tap :)

Their school is growing. A work team from Toronto came to build the 2nd storey of their school.

People talk about Cite Soleil being so bad but Willy and Joel and several other people from Cite Soleil are working hard to change the living conditions. This is the new hospital that they are constructing in Ti-Ayiti, which is the region along the seashore. They are also building cement homes for those who live in tin shacks. This empty spot marks where a family once lived. You can see by the size of the cement slab that the shacks are not very big here.
