POLITICAL OBSERVERS FEAR THAT MARTELLY RESTORES AUTHORITARIAN RULE IN HAITI

PORT-AU-PRINCE - Political observers fear that the Martelly administration seeks to change the constitution of March 29, 1987, and restore authoritarian rule in the country. They call on the people to be vigilant and to preserve the democratic gains.

The Executive Director of the Civil Society Initiative, Rosny Desroches, said he is concerned about the changing political climate of the country. According to Mr. Desroches, who questioned the true intentions of President Michel Martelly and his team, the refusal of the President of the Republic to cooperate in the investigation of nationality, the behavior of power on issues of a constitutional amendment, and elections, are among other important signals...

Many political observers fear that the Martelly administration seeks to change the constitution of March 29, 1987 and restore authoritarian rule in the country. They call on people to be vigilant to preserve the democratic gains.

"The issue of the nationality of members of the Government being of national importance, it should be treated with the utmost seriousness," said the executive director of the ISC when he was asked about the book "Who is who in the Haitian diaspora", which deals with the alleged U.S. citizenship of President Michel Martelly.

Professor Rosny Desroches said he had not yet read this book and not being able to say anything about the scope and veracity of information on different topics. Nevertheless, Mr. Desroches think that such information will not suffice to prove U.S. citizenship of the head of state, reports Radio Vision 2000.
