CARNIVAL IN LES CAYES, 'SWEET MICKY' SWAYS OUTRAGEOUSLY
(Defend Haiti) -

LES CAYES - President Michel Martelly swayed outrageously on the first day of the National Carnival in Les Cayes. Before thousands, the president engaged in conduct unsettled in its propriety and worthiness of a head of state. It seems, Martelly, since his inauguration, is more than ever inhabited by the fanciful character called Sweet Micky.

Although a great musician, it was improper conduct and impulsive language which brought the most fame to the Kompa Artist Martelly. During his campaign for the presidency, many mistakenly believed he had abandoned those ways to enter his new status as Commander in Chief of the Republic of Haiti.

But lo, perched on a carnival truck among the masses and video broadcasters, Martelly engaged in extravagant gyrations that many feared he would do at this time of the year.

Leaning on the musical float, seized by two musicians, Sweet Micky has launched as if he was still campaigning: "Who are those for free education?", before he started wiggling devilishly before the stunned carnival-goers.

One of the musicians on the truck said without laughing: "here’s a young president who sways to advance the country; he is the only one who can do it."

Haitians were divided in disappointment and satisfaction.

On social networks, some were pleased with such an attitude. They believe the Head of State to be bold and courageous. Contrarily others see supreme shame at the highest seat in the territory; a debasement of the office of the presidency. Internet users have gone so far as to call the president a "street vagabond."

For some time, members of the Haitian media cautiously reported that it has become even more difficult to discern the Head of State from the extravagant characters of Sweet Micky and/or Ti-Simone, "swaying outrageously and using big language," they have identified.

More has been scheduled. Nearing the end of the National Carnival in Les Cayes, President Michel Sweet Micky Martelly said that the largest city in the nation and capital, Port-au-Prince, would host a carnival. This, he said, would be in July.
