THE U.S. VESSEL "HSV 2 SWIFT" ON MISSION TO HAITI
(Haiti Libre) -
As part of the commitment of the United States, in responding to the priorities of the Haitian government in the areas of health, education and security, a vessel of the U.S. Navy, "High Speed Vessel" (Swift HSV 2) is in Haiti, as part of a mission of the United States Southern Command "Southern Partnership Station 2012 (SPS 12)."
The HSV 2 SWIFT offloaded $4 million dollars of Project Handclasp humanitarian and medical supplies to be distributed to NGOs and other medical and school institutions in Mirebalais and Cap-Haitien.
The 90-member crew aboard the Swift includes experts in construction, port operations, medicine, and security, and they will work with their Haitian peers during their three-week visit to: renovate a school and a local dispensary to benefit 14,000 residents in Caracol; train Haitian National Police (PNH) and Coast Guard agents, and dialogue with Haitian Ministry of Public Health specialists on veterinary and public health issues.
