UN PEACEKEEPERS ACCUSED OF RAPING YOUNG BOYS
(Defend Haiti) -

GONAIVES - At least two United Nations peacekeepers from Pakistan, based in Gonaives, are facing accusations of raping at least three Haitian males of 12, 14 and 15 years of age, according to the Government Commissioner based in the city.

Commissioner Mesac Philogen says one of the acts took place during the evening of January 20, 2012 in the area of the Place of Arms in Gonaives. Commissioner Philogen says there are two other young boys who were violated.

One of the victims was heard on Friday.

A delegation from the United Nations has already arrived in Haiti to investigate the matter.

Local justice officials are demanding that the Pakistani soldiers, part of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) be put at the disposal of the justice.

"These are actions that undermine the physical and moral integrity of the victims. They must be repaired," said President of the Gonaives Bar Association, Joseph Nehemiah.
