THE RECTOR OF THE UEH APPALLED BY FRIDAY'S INCIDENTS
(Haiti Libre) -
Following the violent clashes last Friday, at the time when President Martelly, accompanied by the First Lady were trying to enter the Faculty of Ethnology at the State University of Haiti (UEH) to attend an international symposium under the theme: "the Ethnology and the construction of the political nation, by people, bf the citizens in Haiti", Jean Vernet Henry, the Rector of the UEH said that he's appalled by what happened.
"This is an incident that is really unfortunate. It is true that we do not yet have all the real information, [...] but anyway it is not normal to throw rocks at the cortege of the President.
... I think also, that there are institutional reports [...] Since the President went to the Faculty of Ethology, he had to announce it to the Dean of the Faculty and at that time, there would have been measures that would have been taken to correctly receive him.
[...] I am very embarrassed, because I was forced at a certain moment to call the Red Cross, to be able to evacuate people [...] I think that the incident that happened was not normal [...] it's a wrong thing to do [...] all the damage that was done... Some individuals invaded the precincts of the faculty, and damaged everything [...] we already do not have the means and we're seeing losses like this ... I am really appalled by what happened..."
